  Hampton, VA - Hampton University is hosting a Summer Fest Concert featuring rappers Yung L.A. and Verse Simmonds on July 16 . 06/18/10 HU WINS GRANT FROM HOME DEPOT'S RETOOL YOUR SCHOOL CONTEST
  Hampton, VA -Hampton University won a $10,000 grant from Home Depot’s “Retool Your School” Contest.  This grant will be used to renovate the iron gating and new landscaping around the Emancipation Oak. This competition involved 57 Historically Black Institutions.  HU was one of 10 institutions to receive the $10,000 minor grant.

05/17/10 HU MIDSHIPMAN SELECTED AS FEMALE OFFICER ON NAVY SUB
  Hampton, VA - Lisa Brodsky, a recent Hampton University graduate and Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) midshipman, has been selected as one of only 19 female officers in the nation to be selected as the first females to serve aboard a U.S. Navy submarine. She will be commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy on May 17. Brodsky graduated May 9 magna cum laude from HU with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics.

  Hampton, VA - Public tickets for the 2010 Hampton University Commencement were available online on April 19 at 8 a.m. EST. There were 1,000 tickets available on a first-come first serve basis at commencement.hamptonu.edu. The tickets were all reserved by 8:10 a.m. EST. If a person received notification that they were put on a waiting list, they will be notified by April 23 whether or not they will receive tickets. The public tickets will be distributed on May 8 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hampton University Convocation Center.

  Hampton, VA - The Hampton University 140th Annual Commencement will be held on May 9 at 10 a.m. in Armstrong Stadium. All graduates and guests, including children over the age two, must have a ticket to enter Armstrong Stadium. All HU graduating students participating in Commencement will be issued 8 tickets for the ceremony in Armstrong Stadium, one for the graduate and seven for guests. Graduating student tickets will be distributed on May 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the HU Convocation Center. Students must present their HU student ID card to pick up tickets.

  Hampton, VA - The Hampton University community mourns the loss of Theo Smalling. Smalling died on Monday, Oct. 26 at approximately 8:40 p.m. at the age of 22. Smalling, captain of the HU Men’s Basketball team, was involved in a senseless accident on Oct. 24.

10/15/09 HU MOURNS THE LOSS OF SCIENCE DEAN
  Hampton, VA -Hampton University mourns the loss of Dr. Douglas DePriest, acting dean of the HU School of Science. DePriest passed away on Oct. 12, at the age of 65.
“The Hampton University community is truly saddened by the passing of Dr. DePriest,” said HU President Dr. William R. Harvey.  “His diligent and heartfelt work as an administrator, scientist and mentor at his alma mater will be missed.”

  Hampton, VA -The inaugural Hampton University Athletics Hall of Fame will welcome its first members when 15 legendary names are inducted next month.   Hampton, VA -The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) Inc., recently reaffirmed the accreditation of the Hampton University Master of Architecture program for a six-year term. “We have a program that is able to produce high caliber architects,” said Robert Easter, chair of the Department of Architecture and alum of the program. “The reaccreditation shows that our program is stable.”

08/19/09 HU NURSING SCHOOL AWARDED $3.2 MILLION
  Hampton, VA - The Hampton University School of Nursing was recently awarded approximately $3.2 million in grants. The three grants will serve several purposes in the department, including the preparing nurses for the workforce, retaining students and enhancing the doctoral program.  The grants were awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration.

  Hampton, VA -An index on the state of marriage in the U.S. will be released at the upcoming Hampton University National Summit on Marriage, Parenting and Families on Sept. 29-30.  The U.S. Marriage Index uses specific measurement indicators to track the health of American marriages through the past forty years and assess areas of improvement for the future.  This index is a product of a partnership between HU and the Institute for American Values.

  Hampton, VA -Earl Caldwell, a visiting professor at Hampton University’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, will be inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Hall of Fame at the organization’s 2009 Annual Convention held Aug. 5-9 in Tampa, Fla.  Caldwell will be recognized on Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Tampa Convention Center.

07/13/09 HU SCHOOL OF PHARMACY REMAINS FULLY ACCREDITED
  Hampton, VA -The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) recently informed the Hampton University Doctor of Pharmacy program that its accreditation has been reaffirmed through June 30, 2011. As a result of this action, the lawsuit filed against ACPE by HU has been dismissed without prejudice.
