The Hampton University family mourns the death of devoted alumnus and faculty member, Mr. Royzell L. Dillard, who passed away on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011. Joining the Hampton University faculty in 1986, Dillard served as a faithful member for twenty-five years. At the time of his passing, he was an Assistant Professor of Music, the Director of University Choirs, and the Minister of Music at Hampton University’s Memorial Church.

AWARDED $1.3 MILLION NIH RESEARCH GRANT
The Hampton University Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the School of Pharmacy received a $1.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health/ National Heart Lung and Blood Institutes (NIH/NHLBI). The funding will support the "Impact of Oxidative Stress-Regulated Angiogenesis in Pulmonary Fibrosis" research project. Dr. Neelam Azad and Dr. Anand Iyer, assistant professors in the Department of Pharmaceutical, are the principal and co principal investigators. The research will extend through June 2016.

The Hampton University School of Pharmacy was recently recognized, by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)  and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, for its educational partnership with the Norfolk Technical Center. Norfolk Technical Center houses the only Virginia Board approved pharmacy technician program in a public high school system in Hampton Roads. 06/23/11 HU PRESIDENT DONATES ADDITIONAL GIFT TO STAFF
Hampton, VA - Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey and Mrs. Norma B. Harvey, have given a $166,000 personal gift to HU to support a wage increase to all full-time permanent HU staff earning less than $8 an hour.  Through this donation, 118 full-time, permanent HU staff employees will receive a wage increase equal to $8 an hour.  This increase takes effect July 1.

Hampton, VA - The Hampton University School of Nursing received a $50,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) New Careers in Nursing Scholarship (NCIN) Program. 05/05/11 HARVEYS DONATE $1 MILLION TO HU
Hampton, VA - Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey and Mrs. Norma B. Harvey have given a gift of $1 million to Hampton University to be utilized as incentives to increase faculty salaries. This is the second $1 million gift the Harveys’ have donated to the University. For the academic year 2011-12, every Hampton University faculty member will receive at least a three percent increase. The Harveys’ donation will provide additional funds for those faculty members who have received grants, published articles in refereed journals, and provided significant service to Hampton University. Under this arrangement some faculty members may be able to receive salary increments up to eight percent.

08/30/10 HU AVIATION PROFESSOR RECEIVES TOP ACCREDITATION
  Hampton, VA - Hampton University's Dr. Donna Wilt recently earned renewal of her Master Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) accreditation. Wilt, associate professor in the Department of Aviation, is one of only 53 flight professionals in the United States to earn the national accreditation four times.

08/26/10 HU WELCOMES 1172 NEW AND TRANSFER STUDENTS
  Hampton, VA - New and transfer students will begin arriving on Hampton University’s campus tomorrow for the Fall 2010 semester. A total of 1172 students (1032 new students and 140 transfer students) will begin classes on Sept. 7. Freshman Orientation Week is Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

PREMIERES SEPT. 1 ON COX CHANNEL 11
  Hampton, VA - In partnership with Cox Business and Cox Channel 11, Hampton University has produced a new television show called “The View from Hampton U.” The public affairs program features weekly news, talk, and reality show elements about Hampton University. The show debuts Sept. 1 at noon on Cox Channel 11. It will run each week on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at noon and 5 p.m.

08/20/10 HU DEPARTMENT CHAIR OF 50 YEARS STEPS DOWN
  Hampton, VA - Dr. Robert Martin Screen has announced that he will step down as chair of the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Hampton University at the end of the August. Screen, who founded the department and has served as chair for more than 50 years, will continue as a professor in the department, concentrating on his writing and research in the areas of language development and disorders, and the impact of culture on communication.
