Hampton University Senior Named Model Student
Edward Kyle Reed has been named Hampton University’s 2009-2010 Model Student. He was selected from a pool of distinguished applicants. “It’s a great feeling and a great experience,” Reed said. “It’s a great opportunity to show my dedication to my school and my community.”
To qualify to be HU’s model student, applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average and be involved in the community and two campus organizations.
Reed, a senior business management major, came highly recommended. He is currently a member of the city of Hampton Democratic Committee and the city of Hampton Neighborhood Commission’s Outreach Committee. At HU, he has served as a member of the Committee on Ceremonial Occasions and the Student Government Association Trustee Taskforce. He is currently the chairman of the HU Student Government’s Governmental Relations.
What I Will Miss Most . . .
- is the people here, especially my graduating class, QT7. The friends I made at HU are going to be my friends for the rest of my life!
- will be all the wonderful people I have met here that I refer to as my family. I will miss my big sisters and brothers and all of my little brothers and sisters and close friends I've made. While I know we will be friends forever and talk frequently it will never be like these past four years.
- is the many close relationships that I have built throughout my matriculation, both with professors and students.
Two Seniors Receive the President's Award
Seniors Mavis Baah and Melani French won the 2010 President’s Award, the highest award given to a senior.
The other finalists were so exceptional that this year HU President Dr. William R. Harvey, President of HU, decided to award the finalists; Christine Burton, Jared Council, and Elliot Croom with a $200 reward and a plaque.
Baah is a print journalism and communications major. In her essay she spoke of the Hampton character that helped her in hard times and paved a way for her during internships.
