Freshman Class President has Vision for School

Name: Isaiah Stewart III
Hometown: Palm Beach, Fla.
Major: Political Science
Dorm: Harkness Hall

What made you want to come to Hampton University?
Well it’s one of the most prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities so that made me want to come. Also, being from Florida, I wanted to go somewhere where I could experience the seasons.

Why did you want to run for president of the freshman class?
I believe I have the skills and the ability to lead my classmates in the right direction. I have a vision for my class and the whole campus. I want everybody to become connected.

What goals do you hope to accomplish?
I want to improve the mindsets of my peers. I want all Hamptonians to see a bigger picture for a brighter future.

How was your campaign experience?
Deciding to run was a big step, but it felt right. I wasn’t nervous because I believed that if God wanted me to have the position, I would have it. I encouraged my classmates to vote, not necessarily for me, but to get out there and vote for someone.

Did you form relationships during the process?
Yes, I spent a lot of time talking to my peers to see what they wanted to see happen because that’s important to me. I exchanged numbers with a lot of people and linked up with them on Facebook.

What other organizations are you interested in joining?
The Student Leadership Institute and the Men’s Caucus

How has your transition from high school to college been?
I’m a lot more independent now. I’ve found that I have to study more and be more organized and focused.

What events are you looking forward to?
Homecoming and Christmas break.
