9/21/06 - HU Extends Proffer to Loan Kigango Statue to Kenya
  Hampton, Va. - Hampton University has offered to loan on an indefinite basis the Giriama memorial statue (kigango statue) to the Mwakiru family of Kenya, Africa. This offer was spelled out in a letter from vice president and general counsel Faye Hardy-Lucas to Dr. Mzalendo Kibunjia, director of regional museums sites and monuments, National Museums of Kenya. While the item was legally acquired and continues to remain the property of Hampton University, the University hopes that this decision will comfort the Mwakiru family.

4/27/06 - HU Alumna Named National Teacher of the year
  Hampton, Va. - Kimberly Oliver, a 1998 graduate of Hampton University , was named the National Teacher of the Year by President George Bush at a ceremony held at the White House on April 26, 2006. Oliver was chosen because of her community focus, teamwork with other teachers, and a desire to see all students succeed.

2/20/06 - The 28th Annual Conference on the Black Family
  Hampton, Va. -Hosted by the School of Liberal Arts and Education, the 28th Annual Conference on the Black Family has selected the theme "Rites of Passage: The Past, Present and Promise of the Black Family" in an effort to provide a forum for an open, honest discussion on our history as a community, understanding how that history plays into the present and how we can forge ahead with the promise for a better tomorrow--if we understand the rites of passage.

2/9/06 - Hampton University Choir to participate in upcoming "Gospel Mass"
  Hampton, Va. -The combined choirs of Norfolk State University and Hampton University will lift every voice and sing with the Virginia Symphony. Dr. Robert Ray's acclaimed Gospel Mass will be the heart of this soulful celebration that will also include works by Norfolk's own Adolphus Hailstork.

  Hampton, Va. -The Hampton University Ministers' Conference in conjunction with Hampton University's Office of Special Projects has announced the dates for the 2006 Ministers' Conference and Choir Directors'/Organists' Guild Workshop as June 4 through June 9, 2006. The theme for this year's conference is "A Call to Celebration and Consecration".
