Chi Eta Phi Sorority

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. is a professional nursing organization for registered nurses and nursing students. The Sorority was founded on October 16, 1932, at Freeman’s Hospital in Washington, DC, by Aliene Carrington Ewell along with eleven other nursing leaders. The sorority’s motto is “Service for Humanity.” This mission is achieved through elevating the plane of nursing and increasing interest in nursing. The sorority programs include health promotion/disease prevention, leadership development, mentoring, recruitment and retention, and scholarships. There are 81 graduate chapters and 39 undergraduate chapters in 26 states, Washington, DC, St.Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Monrovia Liberia, and West Africa. The Tau Beta Chapter was chartered on May 1, 1976, on the campus of Hampton Institute.
