Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society, was founded by Dr. Emory S. Borgadus in the Department of Sociology, University of Southern California, in 1920. It is a society that is dedicated to humankind, examination and acquisition of knowledge, and service to society. To obtain a charter, an institution has to meet high standards of program quality and scholarship. The Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta at Hampton University was chartered in 1985. To qualify for membership, a student must be a junior or senior Sociology major and have accumulated a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale. The aim of the society is the promotion of scholarship. In this regard, the society publishes the Sociological Inquiry, a quarterly journal which is peer-reviewed.
