The Student Empowerment Series seeks to assist students throughout their tenure at Hampton University and into the realization of their goals for the future. The series seeks to equip students with the tools to become culturally versatile, globally aware, independent thinkers, and leaders in their chosen field. Students will receive direction in getting to know professors, planning for the future, financial literacy, image enhancement, and how to choose a company wisely. Additional advice on financing an education is also available.
This tool is available to faculty and professional staff to recommend a student for support services. Students may be referred the Assessment Center due to absenteeism, unsatisfactory progress, or unusual behavior. This tool will generate an e-mail to Assessment Center where we would provide appropriate support to the student.
Peer Led Team Learning
Peer Led Team Learning program targets historically difficult courses to provide more in depth support services to students. Faculty will work in conjunction with peer leaders to provide supplemental assistance to students enrolled in the classes. Faculty will develop modules and assist in preparing the peer leaders for content delivery. Peer Leaders will be responsible for conducting supplemental classes once a week, where they will facilitate group discussion on the content modules. Peer leaders will also provide feedback to the faculty on group discussions.
HU Compass Check: Linking Students to Hampton's Resources
The Assessment Center will set up satellite offices in locations such as residence halls, the Student Center, cafeterias and academic buildings. Utilizing the Intrusive Advisement model, these offices will seek feedback regarding the Hampton University experience. An HU Compass Check form will be used to stimulate discussion and link students to solutions based upon their identified needs.
HU Compass Check seeks to engage students by promoting Hampton’s resources and identifying issues that can negatively impact academic persistence.
