Student Success Center Special Programs

HU Compass: Moving You in the Right Direction

Our overall aim is to encourage students to map out their curricular and co-curricular experiences and provide maximum exposure to opportunities. HU offers a myriad of resources to assist students in obtaining success, and the Student Success Center is available to link and directly connect students to those resources.

The Student Success Center provides tools that help students create a healthy, well-rounded experience at Hampton University. The center uses a mobile unit, called the HU Compass, traveling to buildings throughout campus to meet students where they are that day. This component offers better student accessibility and campus visibility. Our goal is to link students to all the University’s academic, social, and community offerings.

Compass Check Schedule: Below are the dates that he Student Success Center will be in booths on campus conducting Compass checks to help ensure that you are moving in the right direction both socially and academically. (Schedule for Spring 2017-2018 Coming Soon)

Academic Success Workshop: These workshops address topics such as preparing for finals, scholarly essay writing, time management, getting to know your professor, and goal planning. HU Fusion: Helping Transfer Students Acclimate to Their New Home

This program is offered to new undergraduate transfer, commuter, and non-traditional (25 years or older) students with the assistance needed to make a smooth transition to Hampton University. Students will be provided mentors from the Hampton University Student Leadership Program and participate in peer lead social, cultural and academic activities to help them assimilate into Hampton University’s culture.

HU Fusion members will be encouraged to participate in HU Fusion’s monthly calendar of events for the current semester. The initial activity is a “Get Acquainted Event” during the New Student Orientation Week. The students are introduced to mentors and hear from department representatives about on-campus resources. Each semester, members participate in a community service project. Students meet individually with the advisor of HU Fusion to discuss their short and long term goals and provide them with resources to assist them with successful matriculation.
