Mental Health Pilot Program Grant Award

The Historically Black Colleges and Universities' Center for Excellence at Morehouse School of Medicine has funded the Student Counseling Center's proposal for "Promoting Residence Halls as ProSocial Communities." The $10,000.00 award for the 2009/2010 academic year will be used to support a program of promoting social harmony through positive assertive communication, reinforcement prosocial interaction, and early constructive resolution of conflicts. It features training residents of two pilot halls in prosocial principles and behavior, 20 "prosocial behavior coaches," and 20 peer mediators.

The Student Counseling Center is an essential part of Hampton University's campus. Our mission is to assist students with emotional and educational concerns in order to help facilitate a healthy state of mind in which they can thrive. We provide services to enhance each student's ability to succeed not only in Hampton University, but in life. This supports the ongoing mission at Hampton University, "An Education for Life." Our commitment is to students' sense of empowerment so that they will become successful leaders and pillars not only to their local but their Global communities as well.

Appointments

All services are provided to students, faculty and staff at Hampton University by appointment except in emergency cases. Appointments are made as either a walk-in or by calling the Student Counseling Center in advance between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Upon setting an appointment, background information will be obtained from person(s) seeking counseling and an appointment will be scheduled as soon as possible.

Confidentiality

The Student Counseling Center currently maintains a policy of strict confidentiality. Disclosures that students make during counseling sessions will not be shared without the student's written consent. The only circumstances in which confidentiality may be broken are:
