HBCU-CFE Mental Health Pilot Program Grant Award

The Historically Black Colleges and Universities' Center for Excellence at the Cork Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine has funded the Student Counseling Center's proposal for "Promoting Residence Halls as Pro-Social Communities." The $10,000.00 award for the 2009-2010 academic year will be used to support a program of promoting social harmony through positive assertive communication, reinforcement pro-social interaction, and early constructive resolution of conflicts. It features training residents of two pilot freshman halls in pro-social principles and behavior, 20 "pro-social behavior coaches," and 20 peer mediators to be the residence hall leaders of the effort. There also will be a Public Relations campaign conducted by the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications' senior "Capstone" class in public relations.
