Services - Mental Health Counseling

All counseling and consultation services provided by the Student Counseling Center are free to the students, faculty and staff at Hampton University. Clinical counselors are available for emergencies on campus to provide psychological support and if necessary, facilitate emergency hospitalization. Off-campus services may require private health insurance.

Individual Counseling

The Student Counseling Center schedules counseling sessions with students individually in order to discuss personal concerns and emotional distress.

Group Counseling

The Student Counseling Center holds sessions between partners, roommates, friends, and family members upon request and when recommended by a counselor. Group counseling is also offered for various issues such as anger and stress management.

Crisis Counseling and Emergency Services

Emergency services are available to students who are experiencing crises. Crisis intervention is implemented when students exhibit behavior that is likely to prove harmful to themselves or others. See the policy on Psychiatric Separation
