Linda I. Kirkland-Harris, M.Div., Ph.D., LPC - Director
Dr. Kirkland-Harris received her Ph.D. in Pastoral Psychology from Boston University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is certified as a Pastoral Counselor at the Fellow level by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. She looks forward to continuation of the KEEP ON LIVING Suicide Prevention Initiative, and the introduction of College Alc, an Alcohol Prevention and Harm Reduction program.
Ms. Darlene Hood is the Counseling Center’s Academic Counselor / Program Planner.
She received her B.A. in Psychology from Hampton University, and Masters in
Counseling in an Educational Setting and (k12)
Certification from Rowan University.
She is currently pursuing the Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree in Counseling at
Hampton University.
Ms. Katrina Watson is the Counseling Center’s Academic Counselor. She specializes in
academic advising and counseling in higher education, with focus on coordinating and
facilitating workshops to assist students with improving their academic performance and
personal development. She received her B.S. Degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech,
and is currently pursuing the Master of Arts in Counseling Education at Hampton
University.
Mr. Leon Bullard, M.S. – Counselor/ Program Planner
Mr. Leon Bullard works in the capacity of Academic Counselor/Program Planner in the Student Counseling Center at Hampton University. He comes to us from the Atlanta Metropolitan Area and has over 20 years of experience in the field of counseling and the administration of people helping program. He is a licensed School Counselor in the state of Virginia. Mr. Bullard received his B.S. Degree in Human Services from GrandView College and his M.S. Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Fort Valley State University.
Ms. Lenora Carpenter, M.Ed. - Academic Counselor
Ms. Lenora Carpenter received her Masters of Education in Guidance & Counseling (K-12) in 2002 from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She specializes in Collegiate academic advising & counseling. She provides information & referrals, assists with improving academic performance, develops academic & growth programs, and coordinates and implements academic workshops. Ms. Carpenter is currently pursuing an Ed.S. degree in School Counseling at Hampton University.
Mr. Adam Iarussi, ED.S. - Mental Health Counselor
Mr. Adam Iarussi received his Ed.S. in Counseling from Kent State University. He specializes in crisis intervention, suicide assessment and prevention, testing and measurement, and individual and group counseling. He will work primarily with students with psychosocial and/or mental health concerns, and serve as advisor for the Peer Counselor Organization. Mr. Iarussi is working towards professional licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Mrs. Gwendolyn A. White - Secretary
Mrs. White has worked at Hampton University for the last 14 years in the Student Counseling Center. She truly enjoys working with the students. When she is not working Mrs. White enjoys reading, cooking and going to the Chesapeake Bay to watch the dolphins while writing poems. If the opportunity ever presents itself, she would love to open up a community center for people with disabilities.
Mrs. Shannon Sessoms-Fields - Secretary
Mrs. Shannon Sessoms-Fields was a graduate of Tidewater Tech (Centura College) at age 17. She
received an Associates Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Applied
Science. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, or catching a movie.
