Student Support Services Educational & Career Seminars
- Career Seminars: Career seminars are held throughout the year to expose students to the many options that exist and how they can best prepare for the careers of their choice. Additionally, students receive information on how they can best apply their college majors and personal interests in the career- search process.
- Cultural Enrichment Activities: Student Support Services participants have opportunities to participate in activities that are designed to enhance their educational, social, personal, and cultural awareness. Students are exposed to plays, concerts, museums, fashion shows, and other activities that will assist them in the pursuit of becoming well rounded individuals.
- Graduate School Tours: In an effort to provide undergraduate students with a mechanism for selecting graduate schools, graduate school tours are sponsored by the Student Support Services program. During these tours, participants are given information on the respective graduate offerings, and are provided information essential to the application and matriculation processes. This includes admission criteria, financial assistance, and opportunities to meet faculty who offer insight into the nuances of their departments. Through these tours, students have been encouraged to set career goals and identify the graduate programs that will best meet their needs. Examples of past tours include visits to the College of William and Mary, Howard University, Georgetown University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and George Washington University. The students' input is sought prior to making the decision as to which schools will be visited. The tours have proved helpful in assisting participants to set short-term and long-term goals as related to continuing their education.
- Educational Seminars: Educational seminars are held throughout the year to enhance the educational experience of program participants. Past seminars have included Financial Aid, Money Management, Time Management, Paper Writing, and Study Skills.
