Vision
Students in sub-Saharan African countries will utilize T.A.G.S. educational
materials to obtain a quality education and assume their rightful
places in the global network.

Mission
The T.A.G.S. Project seeks to increase access to basic educational
materials for sub-Saharan African children, strengthen global literacy
initiatives, and enhance intra-national and international relationships
between educational institutions primarily serving African and African
American learners.

December 2002
- Hampton University received a Contract Award Letter which provided
$5.9 million for the first year of the T.A.G.S. initiative.
- The project combines the efforts of three private and three
public HBCUs collaborating with educational professionals from
six African countries to develop 300,000 learning materials this
year.
- The entire project is planned for five years and will produce
4.5 million textbooks and supplemental materials for approximately
$36 million, and
- The Hampton University Press will publish all the books and
ancillary learning materials!
