Elementk
and Computer Literacy
In collaboration with the University’s Computer
Literacy program, Elementk software is used to facilitate
an advanced computer proficiency and literacy assessment
tool for incoming freshmen. All freshmen must enroll
and successfully pass CSC-120 (Introduction to Computers).
This is a University requirement. Advanced level users
may take the Elementk online assessment at
http://learn.elementk.com
and "test out" of the CSC-120 course requirements.
In order to obtain an Elementk account please email
Ms. Hayden at angela.hayden@hamptonu.edu
. The self-paced Elementk tutorial provides the content
needed to successfully meet the CSC-120 requirement:
Advanced Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Microsoft
Internet Server 4.0 for the Internet Codes of Conduct.
After successfully completing the tutorial applications,
please submit the transcript to Ms. Hayden. If your
grade is satisfactory, you will be allowed to take the
exit examination. The examination dates will be announced.
Note: A one-time download of Macromedia's
Shockwave player is needed to run Elementk tutorials.
See the Elementk brochure entitled, "Introducing
HU's On-Line Tutorial Program" for more detailed
instructions.
Pirate Power
Using the Pirate Power card eliminates the need to carry
cash around campus. Your University ID card serves as
your campus debit card. You may use the card in the
University bookstore, apparel shop, dry cleaners, laundry
facility, Convocation Center, food court and printing
or copying in the ATM and library. You may add anywhere
from $1.00 to $500.00 at a time to your Pirate Power
card by either visiting the Pirate Power Office located
on the first floor of the Student Center, by using the
Value Transfer Station (VTS) located in the lobby of
the Student Center and in the circulation area of the
Harvey Library or by accessing Pirate Power Online.
Pirate Power Online allows anyone to add dollars to
your Pirate Power Card using the power of the Internet.
To access Pirate Power Online, go to the University’s
homepage, click on Online Resources, then on Pirate
Power Online.
Ruckus
Network
With the growing number of students and universities
across the nation facing charges for illegally downloading
and sharing music from the internet, Hampton has taken
a proactive approach by adding Ruckus Networks to our
line of technology offerings. All on-campus students
at Hampton University will have unlimited access to
a library of over 700,000 songs, a huge collection of
blockbuster movies, a wide selection of on-demand hit
television shows, and Ruckus Network’s community
and social networking applications that allow students
to find friends through media, and media through friends.
You will be able to legally download music to your computer
as well as to an MP3 plays-for-sure device.
Students living off-campus will also have access to
Ruckus, but in a limited capacity. Off-campus students
will only have access to music downloads to their computer.
Please check this guide periodically for instructions
on how to access your Ruckus account.
