| Welcome to the Research Help page. This information
is intended to help you get started. You may wish to contact a Reference
Librarian by calling the Reference Desk at (757) 727-5379 or by emailing
us at ereference@hamptonu.edu
Use our Online Catalog (HUWebCat),
to find books in HU libraries. We also have over 20,000 netLibrary electronic
books included in HUWebCat. Use the FirstSearch database WORLDCAT
to search for and borrow books that are not available at HU. You can
access WORLDCAT at our Research
page. Please note that you will need to set up an ILLiad
account in order to borrow books through the library's Interlibrary
Loan service.
To find articles on a specific topic, search one of the Libraries' databases
(electronic indexes) for citations and/or full-text articles. The database
that you search depends upon your topic. For a complete listing organized
alphabetically or by subject go to our Research
page and select Databases. If you don't know where to begin, try one
of the multi-subject databases, such as Academic Search Elite
or Expanded Academic ASAP, which provide fulltext journal articles
on a broad variety of subjects.
It is important that you know that the library provides both hardcopy
print access to certain journal titles as well as fulltext access via
the databases. If you know the name of the journal you want, you may
check our Ejournal Finder to see if it is available online,
which you can access from our Research page.
If you are unable to find fulltext access to a journal title online,
be sure to check our periodical holdings in HUWebCat
or ask a periodicals staff member for assistance on the 2nd floor
of the library. If you are unable to locate the journal title in either
location, please either come to the Reference Desk for assistance or
place an Interlibrary Loan
