Harvey Library provides an array of resources and services
in support of faculty instructional and research activities.
Liaison Program
Library Liaisons serve as a department's primary contact person in the library and perform many functions:
- Inform faculty of new and existing research tools, methods, resources, and services.
- Provide instruction to develop discipline-specific research skills.
- Support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the university community.
- Update departments on new resources and library technology.
- Provide workshops and training sessions on new library resources for faculty research.
- Evaluate, select, and assist in developing collections in one or more subject areas.

Library Instruction
Harvey Library's library instruction program helps students go beyond Google:
- Provides hands–on training to students and campus faculty in the use of library resources.
- Provides customized library instruction for courses.
- Helps students learn to find information through Harvey Library and the web.
- Helps students to evaluate and effectively use the information they find.
- Tailored to the needs of the faculty member requesting the instruction.
To schedule a library instruction session for your class, complete the
Library Instruction Request Form.
Course Reserves
- Faculty can place materials on reserve at the Circulation Desk.
- Academic Reserves are held for 1 semester unless extended by the instructor.
To place an item on reserve, contact the Circulation Desk at 727-5372.
Faculty Research Assistance
The Library provides research assistance to faculty and students:
- Access to professionally trained Reference Librarians to assist in your research.
- Individual consultations offered to support faculty research needs.
- Customized, one-on-one meeting provided with a librarian to discuss possible information
resources and search strategies for class assignments.

To support the curriculum, Harvey Library subscribes to a variety of online research databases.
Off-campus access to most library databases and e-journals is available only to current Hampton
University students, faculty, and staff with INFOTECH accounts.(managed by ATM - Academic Technology Mall)
- Off campus access to library electronic resources through EZ Proxy.
- All Library electronic resources accessible from computers at any off-campus location 24 hours a day.

Off Campus Access to Electronic Books (EBOOKS)
An EBook is a digital version of a book. Harvey Library has a collection of EBOOKS that you can access
from off-campus from the library homepage:
- Accessible through Library Catalog on Harvey Library's homepage.
- Accessible through EBOOKS on Databases Alphabetical
list on Harvey Library's homepage.

Request a Purchase
Suggest additions to the Libraries' collection:
- Recommend materials for purchase by contacting your
Library Liaison.
- Requests will be evaluated based on the library's collection policy and availability of funds.
Interlibrary Loan Services
- Interlibrary loan service is used to request for materials that are not owned by the Harvey Library.
- For assistance creating an account and placing requests, select ILLIAD on Harvey Library's webpage
and follow the instructions or call 757-727-5186.
Borrowing Materials
- Register for library privileges by presenting Hampton University campus ID to the Circulation Service
Desk on the 1st floor of the Harvey Library.
- Checkout limits: 30 items (books) and 4 items(AV materials)
- Circulation Periods: Most materials: 30 days
- The Virginia Tidewater Consortium Card (VTC) enables faculty to borrow library materials from member
institutions. Consortium applications and borrower cards are available at the Circulation Desk, Harvey Library.
VTC member institutions include Christopher Newport University, College of William and Mary, Eastern Virginia
Medical School, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Regent University, Thomas
Nelson Community College, Tidewater Community College, and Virginia Wesleyan College.
