The Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications is the result of more than 35 years of mass media-related instruction at Hampton University. At its inception in 1967, the program began in the School of Liberal Arts and Education in the Department of Mass Media Arts with one faculty member, 11 mass media arts majors and one typewriter. It is reported to be the first media program among historically black institutions of higher education. In 2002, the program evolved into an independent school as a result of a ground-breaking, industry-academy partnership with the Scripps Howard Foundation.
Degree Program
The Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and communications.
