  1. What is the Hampton University Executive Leadership Summit (ELS)?

    Throughout his forty-year tenure as President of Hampton University, Dr. William R. Harvey has demonstrated a strong commitment to the professional development of others. The Executive Leadership Summit grew out of Dr. Harvey's desire to prepare tomorrow's future leaders. The Summit is a professional development program for individuals at colleges, universities and other institutions who aspire to become executive leaders as well as for those who seek professional retooling. The Executive Leadership Summit is one of the stellar programs offered through the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute. The Summit is all about Passing the Executive Leadership Torch.

  4. What is the goal of the ELS?

    To pass the executive leadership torch from experienced and successful executive leaders to those who aspire to advance to top positions and/or to those who wish to significantly enhance their leadership skills.

  5. Who should attend the ELS?

    The ELS is offered to: Presidents/Chancellors, Provosts/Assistant Provosts, Vice Presidents/Assistant & Associate; Deans/Assistant & Associate; Senior Directors/Directors/Assistant & Associate; Chairs/Assistant & Associate; Education, Government, Business and Foundation Executives.

  6. What can participants expect during the Summit?

    The 2018 ELS kicks off with a keynote address by Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. He will provide attendees with insights into the ten principles of the highly successful Harvey Executive Leadership Model. Successful, skilled presenters will offer attendees creative and innovative techniques to sharpen their skills through engaging, thought-provoking and interactive sessions. Attendees will examine, discuss and exchange ideas about 21st century leadership. They will have opportunities to strategize, share best practices and network during three days of activities which includes a Pre-Summit Workshop, a social event, two days of excellent presentations, and a Closing Certificate Ceremony.

  7. How many participants usually attend the Summit?

    50 — 60 individuals typically register to attend the Summit.

  8. Who plans and organizes the ELS?

    The ELS Advisory Committee is responsible for planning and executing the annual Summit. The three-person committee is comprised of the Hampton University Chancellor and Provost, the Hampton University Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs and the Hampton University Executive Leadership Coordinator.

  9. Who will speak/present at the 2018 ELS?

    Sitting University/College Presidents, Top-Level Education/Government/Business Executives

  10. Is registration required to attend the Summit?

    Yes.

  11. How much does it cost to attend the Summit and what is included in the registration fee?

    • Summit Registration Fee:

      • An Early Bird Registration fee of $650.00 is offered until August 10, 2018.
      • Thereafter, the registration fee is $725.00.
        • Registration ends on October 23, 2018.
      • We offer a day rate of $400.00 for those interested in attending the Summit on Thursday, November 1, 2018 or Friday, November 2, 2018. We accept in person registration payment via credit card or check for day rate attendees.
      • A separate fee of $95.00 is required for those interested in attending the Pre-Summit Workshop on Wednesday, October 31, 2018
      • Should you desire to bring a guest (s) to the Closing Luncheon on Friday, November 2, 2018, the cost per guest is $45.00.
    • Summit Registration Fee Includes:

      • Guided tour of the historic Hampton University Museum and a Welcome Reception on Wednesday, October 31, 2018
      • Summit sessions Thursday, November 1, 2018 and Friday, November 2, 2018; Final Summit session includes guided tour of the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute
      • Continental breakfast, Thursday, November 1, 2018 and Friday, November 2, 2018
      • Lunch Thursday, November 1, 2018 and Closing Luncheon Friday, November 2, 2018
      • Guided bus tour Hampton University Campus, Thursday, November 1, 2018; Visit Peninsula Town Center for dinning &shopping, Thursday, November 1, 2018
      • Shuttle service to and from the hotel during the Summit (see #23 for more details)
  12. What are the acceptable methods of payment?

    Purchase Order, Check, VISA, MasterCard, American Express

    • Purchase Orders require an approved P.O. Number. An invoice will be sent to you from the HUELS Office. If you have questions about your purchase order, contact the ELS Administrative Assistant, Ms. Belinda Pickens, by phone at 757.728.6670 or by email at belinda.pickens@hamptonu.edu
    • Make checks payable to the Hampton University Executive Leadership Summit
    • In order to receive online approval for credit card payments, you need to provide the following information: Name on the credit card; credit card number, expiration date; address. Make sure the address matches the address on your monthly billing statements.
  13. Is a day rate offered?

    Yes. A $400.00 day rate, including a continental breakfast, Summit sessions and lunch, applies to Thursday, November 1, 2018 or Friday, November 2, 2018. An in-person registration payment via credit card is required Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Student Center in front of Ballroom B and on Friday morning from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. in the same location.

  14. Are scholarships offered for Summit attendees?

    No.

  15. How do I register for the Summit?

  16. What is your cancellation/refund policy?

    Refunds will be granted if the cancellation occurs in advance of the Summit.

    • Before and up to October 16, 2018, individuals may cancel ELS registration.
    • A refund will be allowed less a $75.00 service fee.
    • After October 17, 2018 and up to October 22, 2018, individuals may cancel ELS registration.
    • A refund will be allowed less a $100.00 service fee.
    • No Cancellation Refunds will be granted on or after October 23, 2018.
    • Your registration fee will be forfeited if you:
    • Do not cancel your participation in advance of the Summit via email or phone
    • Are a "No Show"
  17. Can I send a replacement if I am unable to attend the Summit?

    A replacement person is welcome to attend the Summit. Please notify the ELS Office concerning the replacement person. We understand that the replacement person will benefit from registration fees that we have already received from you. The ELS Administrative Assistant will contact and assist the replacement person regarding Summit attendance.

  20. Does Hampton University offer transportation to and from the airports or train station for Summit attendees?

    No.

  21. Am I responsible for my hotel stay and expenses?

    Yes.

  22. What is the preferred hotel for Summit attendees?

    The preferred hotel is the Courtyard by Marriott Hampton Coliseum Central, located at

    1917 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, VA 23666. Information about the hotel, the Summit group rate, the Government rate, reservations and more can be found on the Summit web site at www.hamptonu.edu/events/leadership_summit/hotels.cfm.

  23. What is the ELS Shuttle Service schedule for attendees?

    The University provides a shuttle service to and from the preferred hotel throughout the Summit. The shuttle service schedule is as follows:

    Day 1, October 31, 2018:

    • Service to the hotel following the Pre-Summit Workshop
    • Service to and from the hotel for Summit participants attending the Museum Reception

    Day 2, November 1, 2018:

    • Service to and from the hotel for day-long Summit activities:
      • Day activities: Continental Breakfast, registration, morning Summit sessions, lunch, afternoon Summit sessions, optional campus tour and trip to Peninsula Town Center for dining and shopping

    Day 3, November 2, 2018:

    • Service to and from the hotel for day-long Summit activities:
      • Day activities: Continental breakfast, morning/afternoon Summit sessions, tour of the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, Closing Luncheon and Certificate Ceremony
  24. Are special menus offered for vegetarians and people with food allergies?

    Yes. Please notify the ELS Office with your meal requirements/needs no later than Monday, October 22, 2018 by email: thursa.crittenden@hamptonu.edu

  25. Will attendees have access to computers, electronic devices and communication during the Summit?

    Yes. A station will be set up for attendees on Thursday and Friday of the Summit in the Student Center, Ballroom C.

  26. If I drive to the Summit, will I be able to park my car on campus near the Student Center?

    Yes. If you plan to drive, please notify the ELS office no later than Wednesday, October 24, 2018 by email: belinda.pickens@hamptonu.edu . Your name will be submitted to Security at the Entrance Gate. Once you arrive, you will receive instruction from the security guard on duty.

  27. What is the attire for the Summit?

  28. Am I permitted to bring someone with me to Summit activities/events?

    Yes. There is one exception. You may invite a guest (s) to the Closing Luncheon and Certificate Ceremony on Friday, November 2, 2018. There is a charge for your guest (s) to attend this event. The cost is $45.00 per guest. Otherwise, you may not bring someone with you to Summit activities/events.

  29. If I am unable to attend the Closing Luncheon and Certificate Ceremony, will I still be able to receive my certificate and lapel pin?

    Yes. We will mail them to you.

  30. Will I be able to obtain presenter PowerPoint presentations?

    Yes. Following the Summit, we will forward a link to you with all of the presenter PowerPoint presentations.

  31. Will media coverage be permitted?

    Yes. Note: All media coverage must be approved by University Relations. If you have a media coverage request, please notify the ELS Office. You will be notified if your request has been granted or denied.
