The Hampton University Department of Psychology invites applications from qualified candidates for one full-time, nine-month position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2020. This position can represent multiple areas of psychology, however, emphasis will be placed on those possessing expertise in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Cognitive Psychology or Neuropsychology.

The Department of Psychology has a rich hisotry of dedication to students and toward student's success after graduation. Faculty members are active teachers, engage in scholarly research, and provide service to the University and the greater Hampton Roads community. Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be committed to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in research methodology, statistics, cognition, and other discipline-related topics. Additionally, successful candidates are expected to advise psychology majors and hold office hours. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department through a productive research agenda that includes grantsmanship. Candidates should demonstrate dedication to the progress of the Psychology Department, the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and the University as a whole, through service activities.


Qualified candidates must have earned a doctorate in Psychology. Experience in and evidence of successful teaching in a university setting is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in research and grantsmanship. Although there is an expectation of hiring at the Assistant Professor rank, we will consider filling the position at a higher rank depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. Rank and compensation are commensurate with credentials and experience.
