The Department of Sociology at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Sociology, BS in Criminology/Criminal Justice and BS in Cyber Security degrees, is seeking to fill two positions at the Associate or Assistant professor level. Please note that tenure-track positions are offered at the discretion of the University conditional upon expertise, credentials and qualifications of the successful candidate. The anticipated start date is August 26, 2019.

Duties and Responsibilities

Area(s) of specialization is open, but preferred is a sociologist with quantitative skills and at least five years of experience in teaching statistics and quantitative research methods. The preference for the second position will be given to those who have interdisciplinary skills in teaching sociology, criminal justice, and cyber security. The successful candidate must be committed to teaching, the advisement of students, and must demonstrate evidence of research and grantsmanship.


Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an active research agenda, potential for, or record of, externally funded research activity, and commitment to quality teaching and mentoring of students.


Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in sociology, and/or criminal justice or from an accredited university, potential to teach effectively (in both online and traditional settings) at the university level in undergraduate settings, ability to conduct scholarly/funded research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets, and the ability to advise students.
