The Center for Information Technology (CIT)/Academic Technology Mall (ATM) IT Technician provides technical, administrative support for the enterprise-wide network at Hampton University and its various schools and departments. This role is responsible for supporting the ATM Help Desk’s student. The candidate will report to work at 4 pm - 12 am Monday through Thursday and on Sunday at 3 pm-12 am.* Applicant must be customer service orientated with excellent organizational skills.
Qualified candidates will maintain the CIT lab and its equipment. The IT Technician role requires flexibility throughout the year; specifically, working hours change during holidays, graduation, registration, and special events.
Additionally, the IT Technician maintains the computers and printers in the ATM, including the electronic classroom. Preferred candidates will have a general knowledge of PC/MAC, Windows operating system, and network infrastructure protocols. As a member of the Help Desk Team, the successful candidate will provide backup support for other team members as necessary.
*During COVID-19, work hours may be adjusted by the ATM Help Desk Coordinator.
**This is a grant-funded position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support resetting authorized user’s passwords and unlocking accounts
- Maintaining order and safety of students within the lab
- Answering Helpdesk phones
- Providing professional customer service
- Safeguarding all electronics, computers, and devices
- Replacing printer products as needed
- Performing other duties as assigned by management
Requirements
- Must possess excellent communication skills
- Must be able to work well both independently and/or within a team environment
- Experience working with customers
Qualifications
- Preferred background and experiences:
- High school diploma, preferably Associates degree in a relevant field of study
- Hands-on knowledge and experience in the application/operation of Microsoft Office Suite software programs
- Microsoft server certifications and Wireless network certifications
- One year or more of current experience working a support department
- Highly desired background and skills:
- Skilled in use personal computers and printers
- Understanding of databases
- Formal training/education – BS Degree in a related field
