The Hampton University Center for Entrepreneurship, Economics, Finance and Accounting invites nominations and applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting, beginning Fall 2021.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The Department offers programs of study in four disciplines: Entrepreneurship, Economics, Accounting and Finance that lead to the Bachelor of Science degree. All are designed to provide students with the skills and aptitudes needed to compete successfully in the profession. The curricula are structured to enable students to enter and make significant contributions in corporate, government or research organizations. The Accounting Program is designed to prepare students for careers in financial and managerial accounting, taxation, and auditing.  The Department achieves its mission through curricula structured to enable students to comprehend, analyze and critically assess an entity’s economic status and provide recommendations and direction, which will optimize its value.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate Accounting courses
  • Provide instruction based on course description, and outlines, and course description and meet classes as scheduled and maintain accurate academic records
  • Assess student performance and remain current with content, technology, and teaching and learning strategies in the discipline
  • Collaborate with colleagues to review and revise curriculum, course development, teaching materials and teaching methods to promote student success and lifelong learning
  • Provide service to the university and attend meetings/events as required by the University, the School, and the Department
  • Serve and function as an academic advisor
  • Work closely with the School Dean to create a space for collaboration with local and national entities to support the program goals and engage in fundraising
  • Maintain academic standards and professional ethics
  • Identify and implement recruitment strategies to increase enrollment in the department
  • Demonstrate the capacity of high-quality research and grant writing
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chairperson and Dean of the School of Business


All candidates should have earned a Ph.D in Accounting from a nationally accredited university with a minimum of two years of college-level teaching for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an active research agenda, potential for, or record of externally funded research activity, and commitment to quality teaching and mentoring of students.  In some cases, exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank.
