The Hampton University School of Science invites nominations and applications for a Postdoc in Science Education beginning September 2021.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The School of Science has 9 different departments that include Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Communicative Sciences and Disorders, Marine Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Physical Therapy. These departments work together for the benefit of our students’ learning trajectories and faculty upward mobility.

Duties and Responsibilities

The postdoc’s duties will primarily include research within the Hampton University STEM Scholars Program (SSP), which is a collaboration between Department of Defense and School of Science.

The project will provide the overall context of the postdoc’s research. The postdoc will become part of a vibrant, creative and open project team collaboration consisting of three senior science researchers and one research assistant.

The postdoc will become responsible for parts of the project under guidance of the senior researchers. The specific research tasks for the postdoc will depend on the competences of the successful candidate and the tasks will be decided in a dialogue with the senior researchers. Parts of the project can be molded to fit the candidate’s competences and interests.


The candidate must have earned a doctoral degree or equivalent in science education or in a related field and be able to document experiences while conducting empirical science educational research.

Applicants must be able to communicate fluently (written and orally) in English.

 The position is open from July 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a temporary position lasting until July 2022.
