Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of the Physical Plant, the incumbent is to supervise the installation and maintain the electrical systems and equipment in good working condition in order to minimize unscheduled interruptions in service as required by Hampton University.

  • Incumbent must be able to work with others and possess a positive attitude in the performance of his/her duties.

  • Incumbent must be willing to accept changes in the regular work schedule in order to accommodate the needs of Hampton University.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation of new and renovations to and upgrading of electrical systems and work, etc.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of motor relays, magnetic starters, transformers, etc.

  • Responsible for the repair, maintenance, alterations and/or installation of any electrical wiring apparatus.

  • Maintain a detailed and comprehensive knowledge of the electrical systems at Hampton University.

  • Responsible for the installation of electrical circuits.

  • Responsible for emergency response to critical situations.

  • All other duties as assigned by the Director.


  • Thorough working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and City of Hampton Compliance Codes.

  • Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Master Electrician License required
