Description

This position works and collaborates with the Director of Operations Analysis and Research when projects require skill and knowledge sets and the Vice President for Research, Associate Provost, and Dean, Graduate College as appropriate. It requires knowledge of survey research, descriptive statistics, information resources, experienced commuter usage and basic understanding of the logic of computer programming.  Good oral and written communication skills required.  Knowledge of university culture is helpful. Develop and maintain rapport with Hampton University’s departments and associates employed of IPEDS and SCHEV.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Annually collects, complies and presents data in final form in concert with the Technical Support Assistant/Computer Analyst, as required for annual studies, reports and or surveys.

  • Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of reports for those outside agencies that provide financial assistance and require information to include the most accurate, comprehensive and timely data possible.

  • Primary responsibility for preparing and monitoring the completion and submission of selected reports required by outside agencies; federal, state, regional and local with an emphasis on ethics in reporting. (Many reports require data specific files and electronic submission). Certain types of reports and required surveys are as follows:

  • State Council of Higher Education for Virginia – SCHEV Annual Reports and Surveys (10) (preparation and submission shared with Technical Support Assistant/Computer Analyst)

  • Integrated Postsecondary Educational Systems – IPEDS Annual Surveys (9)

  • NCAA Enrollment –NCAA

  • NCAA Graduation Rate Survey – NCAA

  • NSF Graduate Research Facility and Technology Report – NSFGRD

  • NSF Graduate Students and Post Doctorates in Science and Engineering Survey – NSFGPDSE (by Major, Full-Time & Financial Support, Post Doctorate Faculty by Major; Degree Level; Country of Origin and Degree-granting School – Office of the Provost; Non-Faculty on Staff – Office of the Provost)

  • Peterson’s Graduate Student Survey

  • Associated New American Colleges – ANAC

  • Post-Secondary Education Quick Information System – PEQUIS

  • College Board – Graduate Enrollment – CBGE

  • HBCU Phase I – Title III Federal Government Grant (Undergraduate and Graduate)

  • Classification of Instructional Programs – CIP Code Updates

  • Assists the Business Office, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and Office of the Registrar with various surveys and reports (Standard & Poor’s, NACUBO, NACU, Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program, etc.)

  • Assists the Director of Operations Analysis and Research in the conduct of the university-wide research function.

  • Initiates and conducts studies as assigned by the Director and Vice President for Research, Associate Provost, & Dean, Graduate College.

  • Maintains an archive of institutional research information for a period of 10 years.

  • Participates on committees as assigned.

  • Serves as an Ad Hoc member, as assigned.

  • All other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree desired.

  • Experience with postsecondary datasets such as IPEDS, SCHEV, and other higher education external reporting needs highly preferred.

  • Experience with higher education institutional characteristics desirable.

  • Ability to interpret statistical reports.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to focus and multitask.

  • Work collegiality in a team work environment.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Good work ethic.

  • Must be able to meet deadlines.
