A Prep Cook, or Preparatory Cook, is responsible for providing a supportive role to kitchen staff in the preparation of meals and ingredients. Their duties include organizing and labeling food items in storage closets, performing tasks like chopping ingredients and sanitizing their work station during and after service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Rotate stock items as per established procedures;
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to determine which items need to be pulled and prepped
  • Properly store food items at appropriate temperatures
  • Maintain accurate food inventories
  • Restock kitchen for subsequent shifts;
  • Measure and assemble ingredients for menu items
  • Ensure that the food prep area and kitchen are cleaned and sanitized at the end of your shift
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work station.
  • Follow any and all food safety rules policies and procedures, utilizing Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and ServSafe
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends and some Holidays
  • Must be reliable, responsible, polite, groomed, and articulate
  • Minimum of six months experience with basic commercial kitchen equipment and menu prep
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds regularly, and occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds)
