Description

Reporting to the Hampton University President, the Chief of Staff will work collaboratively with the president to lead institutional operations and improve processes and outcomes. This role will be responsible for the coordination of cross-functional initiatives as well as readiness activities that elevate the university’s rankings, engage alumni, bolster enrollment and improve the overall student and employee experience. The Chief of Staff will use his/her expertise to influence positive outcomes for multiple stakeholders at all levels.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a catalyst to organizational change.

  • Leverage data to identify benchmarks and gaps to be addressed.

  • Partner primarily with internal stakeholders(e.g., faculty, staff, students, alumni) to create and lead a cross-functional committees and execute detailed change management plans for campus-wide initiatives.

  • Manage the areas of strategic planning, new student recruitment, financial aid, student support services, curriculum development and other areas that affect enrollment, student persistence, and student outcomes.

  • Oversee organizational change plans – including internal and external stakeholder management, leadership communications, training development, and organizational readiness.

  • Oversee initiatives with regular check-ins with initiative owners. Serve as a thought partner to scope and guide relevant initiatives to their logical outcomes and/or resolve issues and capture opportunities.

  • Actively seek to influence, build effective relationships, and gain alignment with peers, functional partners, and/or external stakeholders (e.g., civic, corporate, philanthropic) to accomplish objectives.

  • Deliver tangible and quantifiable process and operational improvements, proactively flag issues or barriers to success, and work with the project teams to create relevant action plans.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the President.

Requirements

  • Highly knowledgeable and experienced in program, project and organizational change management best practices; methodologies and techniques to provide oversight and support to program and project management, organizational change management specialists and stakeholders and sponsors

  • Demonstrated experience leading high-visibility projects with cross-functional stakeholders to quickly address programming and resource challenges and improve organizational deficiencies

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a related field and 15+ years of cabinet level professional experience

  • Multi-layered experiences across the higher education landscape (i.e. institutional and positional diversity.)

  • Working knowledge, principles, and practices of office management/systems within a higher education environment
