The Hampton University Department of Computer Science invites nominations and applications for one full-time, 9 month probationary tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor beginning August 2015.  The Department of Computer Science is housed under the umbrella of the School of Science.  The faculty member will report to the Department Chair.  Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on approximately 300 acres of beautiful waterfront property in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. 

Candidates should include a written record indicating a background in at least one of the following areas: cyber security, big data, computational computing, game development, and/or software development. 




Duties and Responsibilities


The faculty member will report to the Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (if graduate courses are required),
  • Recruiting and advising students,
  • Pursuing an active research/publication agenda,
  • Providing service to the University, community, and higher education profession; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Chair, Assistant Dean, or Dean


Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in Computer Science.  Newly awarded PhD candidates will also be given consideration.  Preference will be given to candidates who have previously taught on the college level.
