Description

This position is responsible for the supervision of skilled and semi-skilledcraftsmen in the areas of plumbing and HVAC installation, modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul of Hampton University’s plumbing and HVAC systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervision of plumbing installations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Supervision of HVAC installations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Responsible for formulating, maintaining and improving a preventativemaintenance program for the University owned properties.
  • Responsible for job assignment, adjustment to schedules to maintain manpowerlevels consistent with available craftsmen.
  • Inspects the work of personnel to assure work is completed in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for contacting and communicating with contractors andvendors todeliver most cost effective services to meet University needs.
  • Responsible for assisting in developing means of cost reducing operations.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, evaluating, discipling, and recommendingtermination of personnel as necessary.
  • Responsible for coordinating and inspecting the work of outside contractors.

Requirements

  • High school graduate with at least two years of mechanical/technical school.
  • Five years experience in plumbing/HVAC field with two years supervisoryexperience.
  • Journeyman License required.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable state and city codes and regulations.
  • Skilled in maintenance and repair procedures, breakdown repair andtroubleshooting.
  • Ability to supervise assigned staff as a group as well as on an individual basis.
  • Skills to read blueprints, shop drawings and diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
