The Hampton University Department of Applied Economics and Entrepreneurship Studies invites nominations for Economics teaching position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Spring 2019.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The Department of Economics provides rigorous training in economic analysis.  Students are exposed to applications of economic techniques used in public sector, private and international business environmentsThrough the study of standard economic models, students learn to identify, explain and describe the major features and functions of an economy.  Successfully completing the major enables students to analyze, synthesize and evaluate economic, social and business issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

The faculty member will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate Economics courses

  • Provide instruction based on course description, and outlines, and course schedules and meet classes as scheduled and maintain accurate academic records

  • Provide and maintain a learning environment that emphasizes, encourages sound discussions and critical thinking

  • Provide service to the university and attend meetings/events as required by the university, the school, and the department

  • Assess student performance and remain current with content technology, and teaching and learning strategies in the discipline

  • Maintain academic standards and professional ethics

  • Evaluate students’ academic progress and grade students’ work

  • Meet regularly with students and facilitate the learning process when needed

  • Maintain accurate academic records

  • Demonstrate the capacity of high quality research and grant writing

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson or Dean.



All candidates should have earned a Ph.D or Master’s Degree in Economics with 18hrs of Economics from an accredited university with a minimum of two years of college-level teaching.  Work experience will also be considered.
