SportsCenter Anchor Jay Harris, ESPN Executives Visit HU

Norfolk native and ESPN SportsCenter Anchor Jay Harris and other ESPN executives visited Hampton University for ESPN Day on Feb. 18, to educate students about the station's internship and career opportunities. The HU Department of Health Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) hosted the event. Throughout the day, ESPN recruiters visited sports management classes, the career services department, and the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications.

Pharmacy Dean to
participate in Wal-Mart health dialogue

School of Pharmacy Dean Dr. Wayne Harris is one of 25 university leaders participating in the First Annual Dean's Council Meeting sponsored by Wal-Mart in Bentonville, Ark. The event, March 18-19, will include presentations about health and wellness and dialogue about the future of the pharmacy profession. Harris was recommended to attend as a dean with, "strong leadership character and innovativeness," and one who is influential in the pharmacy field.

J-School Welcomes Actress, Author Denise Nicholas

The Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications welcomed noted actress and author Denise Nicholas on Jan. 19. Nicolas addressed a full house in the Scripps Howard Auditorium, speaking about her role in the civil rights movement. Known best for her roles in the television programs "In the Heat of the Night" and "Room 222," Nicholas holds a lengthy television career. She has received numerous accolades, including two Golden Globe nominations, two Los Angeles Emmy Awards, and three NAACP Image Awards.

NCAAMP Releases Call to Action
for Healthy Marriages, Families

Hampton University's National Center on African American Marriages and Parenting (NCAAMP) has released A Call to Action Report, a summary of findings from the HU National Summit on Marriage, Parenting and Families held in September 2009. The report showcases observations on the state of marriage in the U.S. and recommendations for actions to encourage, support and sustain healthy marriages, effective parenting and strong families.

Margo Humphrey Lithographs and Works on Paper

Her Story: Margo Humphrey Lithographs and Works on Paper will be on view from Feb. 4 through May 9 at the Hampton University Museum. Her Story surveys the career of the renowned printmaker Margo Humphrey, representing more than 40 years of the artist's practice. Her Story was jointly curated by Robert E. Steele, executive director of the David Driskell Center at the University of Maryland, and Curator Dr. Adrienne L. Childs.
