Dear Prospective Graduate Student:
We appreciate your interest in the Hampton University School of Nursing, Department of Graduate Nursing Education. Facts about the nursing program:

Admission Requirements for the Master’s Program
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program
- An overall GPA of 2.5 and a nursing GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- A current license to practice in any state. A Virginia nursing license must be obtained prior to taking any clinical course. The Nurse Licensure Compact is recognized by the School of Nursing
- An undergraduate course in statistics and physical assessment
- One year of clinical experience beyond the bachelor’s degree prior to taking courses
Admission Requirements for the Doctoral Program
- A master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program
- An overall GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Acceptable GRE scores (450, verbal/550, quantitative) if you are enrolled in the last semester of a master’s program in nursing and with to begin the application process
- A current license to practice nursing in any state
- A current curriculum vita
Admission Procedures
- Call the Graduate Office at (757)-727-5454 to have an application mailed to you
- Submit a completed application. A personal statement that delineates yours goals and research interest, and the application fee ($25) to the Graduate College, Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia 23668. You must send the following materials to the Graduate College as a part of your application:
- Offical transcripts from all institutions,
- GRE test scores (you do not have to submit GRE scores if you have a master’s in nursing), and
- Two letters of recommendations
- Schedule a personal interview with a faculty member who teaches in the MS of PhD program in the School of Nursing
- Receive approval fro admission from the Gradute Admissions, Scholarships and Standards Committee of the School of Nursing
