Every Hampton University student should be able to "recognize when
information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use
effectively the needed information." These skills (Information Literacy)
are defined and described at the following website:
ACRL(Association
of College &Research Libraries)
Instructional Services at Harvey Library is comprised of these basic
services:
- Curriculum-based instruction
Graduate or undergraduate level, these instructions are tailored
to the needs of the faculty
member requesting the instruction. These sessions are designed to
familiarize the student
with the resources available in their discipline, or, to assist
an entire class with the research
process on a given topic. Faculty members are encouraged to call
757-727-5379 to
schedule a session with a librarian in the library classroom. Please
plan ahead. The librarians
require seven day's notice.
- Research Paper consultation
These instructions are designed specifically for individuals who
would like to work one-on-one
with a librarian in the Harvey Library on a research topic. These
consultations are available on
an appointment basis only. An informational form is available at
the Reference Desk and online
(url). Please complete this form when requesting an appointment.
It will allow the librarian to better
prepare for your session. You will hear from the librarian as soon
as possible (within 24 hours).
