Harvey Library’s library instruction program provides hands- on training to campus faculty, students, and staff in the use of library resources.We provide services and resources to help you learn how to find the information you need. These library and research skills are essential to each student for their college and lifelong success.
Currently, Harvey Library's instructional services include the following:
- Course – Based Library Instruction: Library Instruction sessions are tailored to the needs of the faculty member requesting the instruction. These sessions are designed to familiarize the student with library-based research and resources available in their discipline, or to assist an entire class with the research process on a given topic. We offer a lecture/demo session followed by a hands –on practice session. Librarians who are departmental liaisons offer instruction in their respective subject areas.
Call 727-5561/5379 to schedule a session, or complete this Library Instruction Request Form and email it to Girija Venkat. Please request an appointment 7 days in advance to allow librarians time for scheduling and preparation. Sessions are held in the the Harvey Library Classroom located on the 1st floor.
- Research Consultations: We offer one-on-one consultations to support your research needs, specifically for individuals who would like to work with a librarian on a specific research topic/paper. These consultations are available on an appointment basis only. To schedule a consultation session, complete the Research Consultation Request Form that you will find at the Reference Desk or call the Reference Desk at 727-5379. Request an appointment at least 2 days in advance. You will hear from the librarian as soon as possible (within 24 hours).
- General Library Tours: Library tours can be scheduled for classes, groups or individuals. We will provide students with an initialed form as proof of their attendance. To schedule an individual or group tour, call the Reference Desk at 727-5379.
- Special Workshop: We periodically offer special workshops on a variety of topics: searching in specific databases, finding books and articles, using different citation styles, and writing successful research papers. To check schedule and register for a session, please call the Reference Desk at 727-5379.
- Library Instruction Faculty Survey: The purpose of this survey is to determine the effectiveness of the library instruction session. Please complete this online survey and submit it. We thank you for your feedback and cooperation!
